Your prototypes will make a difference!

Want to do meaningful design work at a product-driven company and have an impact on the lives of millions of people working in retail? As a Design Prototyper at Zipline you will work with product managers, product designers, content designers, and have regular connections to our customers. Together you will dive deep into parts of the Zipline product, rapidly creating prototypes for challenging problems and get feedback quickly from the people we’re building it all for.

Our mission is to bring retail operations out of the dark ages and give companies effective tools that their employees love to use. You will help improve the way that this 4.4 trillion dollar industry communicates with its store employees and save them from sad, slow, inefficient systems (think fax machines, voicemails, and the postal service). We have awesome investors, great customers and are looking for a Design Prototyper to help us ensure our customers are successful with our product. For this role, we are looking for someone who has the skills to rapidly explore product design concepts and help set and help us explore future experiences within Zipline.

You’ll help bring potential experiences from vision through to testing while prototyping, testing, and honing the design to ensure it works for our customers.

Design and customer experience matter to our customers (Gap Inc, TOMS, Lululemon, LEGO, and many more amazing brands) and we believe the investments we’re making in product design will continue to set us apart from our competitors. We want you to be part of that!

Responsibilities

  • Encourage and facilitate rapid ideation, iteration, and growth of designs and concepts via prototyping
  • Work with the Product Design team to develop proofs of concept to demonstrate product value to customers and rapidly gather feedback
  • Experiment with different approaches to solving a problem integrating code and design solutions
  • Collaborate with Design and Engineering team in ideation and exploration
  • Collaborate with the Product Design team to prepare and run user testing sessions
  • Solve issues with your cross-functional leads
  • Champion early-stage customer experiences through visual designs of Proofs of Concepts and Prototypes
  • Participate in quick and iterative user research to enable ideation and concept refinement
  • Create and rapidly iterate on ideas in order to develop via experimentation

Must-haves

  • You focus on having the maximum impact with the minimum effort (we move fast)
  • At least 5 years experience working as a frontend developer or prototyper, on a Product team for desktop or mobile.
  • Experience in working and collaborating with diverse teams in a dynamic, rapid growth environment.
  • Experience partnering with product designers and managers to rapidly create prototypes for features and testing.
  • Experience with prototyping as a means to explore and convey design solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

More about you

  • Experience designing UI/UX for web-based operational/productivity tools
  • Retail experience is an asset, but not required
  • Proficient in productivity applications such as Slack, Gmail or Basecamp
  • Ability to effectively communicate to, present to, influence or befriend all levels within an organization.
  • Outstanding listening and writing skills, and a keen ability to translate complex concepts into simple, persuasive language.
  • Team player with excellent collaboration skills to build relationships across the company with both ours as well as our customers.
  • Self-motivated, dependable, and dedicated.

How do we work? Remotely. We have been 100% remote since the company was founded and we have it down to a science - - a people science. We huddle as a team weekly and as a company 3 times a week. On Fridays, we come together to learn from each other. One week it might be about opossum rescue. Another week it might be an update on our product roadmap or the results of our customer satisfaction survey. We are all masters of Zoom and love the freedom of working from home - - or vans - - or sailboats.
